Internal boro paddy collection inaugurated in Nakla
SB Correspondent, Sherpur: Internal boro paddy collection has been started in Nakla of Sherpur for this season. Zahidur Rahman Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Nakla formally inaugurated the boro paddy procurement at the Upazila Food Warehouse premises on Monday noon.
At this time Shah Md Burhan Uddin chairman and Mohammad Saroar Alam Talukder vice chairman of Nakla upazila parished, Agriculturist Parish Chandra Das upazila agriculture officer, Lutfar Rahman upazila food controller, Rezaul Karim officer-in-Charge of Food Warehouse of Nakla upazila, Alamgir Azad convener of upazila Krishak League, Mirza Jahangir Alam Bulbul GS of Upazila Rice Mill Owners Association and Nakla Municipal Awami League, many officials of food department, journalists of different media and among others were present on the occasion. During the inauguration, one metric ton of boro paddy was collected from a farmer of Nakla Municipality area.
According to the Upazila Food Controller’s Office- 2,441 metric tonnes of boro paddy will be procured directly from 1,221 farmers in the upazila at a price of Tk 26 per KG or Tk 1,040 per maund (40kg). Allready 1,221 farmers have been selected through open lottery. Each selected farmer can sell a maximum of 2 metric tons or 50 maunds of boro paddy to the government.
Agriculturist Paresh Chandra Das UAO of Nakla said that, after announcing the purchase of boro paddy at the government price and inviting applications from interested farmers, the field level Sub Assistant Agriculture Officers (SAAO) under upazila agriculture office went from house to house and collected 6,998 applications from different areas of the upazila. Later, 1,221 farmers were selected through open lottery among the 6,998 applicants.
Upazila Food Controller Lutfar Rahman said 6,998 interested farmers of the upazila applied to the government to sell boro paddy. Of these, 152 farmers were selected from Ganpaddi union, 149 from Nakla union, 125 from Urfar union, 69 from Gauradwar union, 113 from Baneshwardi union, 116 from Pathakata union, 115 from Talki union, 111 from Char-Ashtadhar union, 153 from Chandrakona union and 118 farmers of the municipality area were selected through open lottery.
