The five ‘militants’ captured from House no 23 of Road no. 28 of Rupnagar of Mirpur of the capital are the members of the same family. They did not mix with the local people though they have been residing there for last ten years. But some suspicious people used to visit the house occasionally.

The detained militants are – Ahmed Ali, 57, his wife Salma Ahmed, 50, sons Abu Saleh Mohammad Zakaria, 24, Abu Saleh Mohammad Kibria, 22 and daughter Asma Ferdousi Rifa, 26. They are involved with militant organization Ansar Al Islam.

On Saturday (July 27) evening police super (Legal and Media) of Anti- Terrorism Unit Md. Mahiduzzaman has confirmed it.

Md. Mahiduzzaman informed that the arrested five militants are the members of same family who has been living at Rupnagar area for last ten years but they had no connection with the locality. Even if somebody wanted to make contacts with them but they did not entertain that. Many suspicious people used to visit their house. Besides, many organizational meetings were also held there.

He further informed that after primary investigation it was learnt that Ahmed Ali is serving as a senior principal officer (SPO) of Sonali Bank in Motijheel local branch. In the veil of government job he along with his family members is involved with militant organization Al Islam.

It may be mentioned here that according to Intelligence report a team of Anti Terrorism Unit carried on a raid in that house of Rupnagar in the night of last Friday. Initially when the inmates of that house understand the presence of law enforcers they blasted hand bombs in the house. Police then for the sake of the security of the local people fired seven rounds of gun shots. This caused injury to one militant and three police men. In the raid five militants were arrested.

The three police men injured by the militants’ attack are now under treatment at Rajarbag central police hospital. Injured Abu Saleh Mohammad Zakaria is now under treatment Dhaka Medical College hospital.
