All units of DMP have been put to work to destroy Aedes mosquito larvae, the DMP commissioner said

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia has said 50,000 officers have been put to work to destroy Aedes mosquito larvae in the city.

“Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has found Aedes mosquito larvae at Rajarbagh Police Lines area. 50,000 police officers from all units of DMP, starting from 7am Saturday, have been trying to destroy these larvae,” Asaduzzaman said.

He made the comments at the inaugural ceremony of “Keep Rajarbagh Police Lines Clean Mission” in Dhaka on Saturday morning.

The commissioner said: “The cleanliness mission will continue until dengue is under control. We are trying to bring the dengue situation under control before Eid-ul-Azha.”

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on its own will not be able tackle the dengue situation, the DMP commissioner said.

Everyone should take individual responsibility in tackling the mosquito menace, he added.

According to the unofficial tally, at least 47 people have died due to the mosquito-borne virus. Until Friday, 6,582 people were hospitalized, which was 4,903 on Thursday afternoon.

The number of dengue patients has reached a record high of 21,253 since the beginning of this year.
