The fire broke out in Nirbachan Bhaban building in the capital’s Agargaon area Sunday (September 9) night hadn’t caused any large-scale casualties.

“No such damage occurred as we feared. The extent of loss is too small,”, Director General of NID Registration Wing of the Election Commission Brig Gen Mohammad Saidul Islam told media after visiting the EC Headquarters Monday (September 8).

No damage happened to the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) Control Unit. Only the monitor got damaged with water, he said.

The fire damaged air-conditioners and cable boxes but the ballot unit wasn’t heavily damaged, he said further.

Brig Gen Mohammad Saidul Islam credited quick response of Fire service and team work to save the national assets from possible large-scale damages.

Asked about reason behind the fire, EC Additional Secretary Md Mokhlesur Rahman finds nothing other than short-circuit as none resides in the building.

However, the fire erupted around 11:06pm on the ground floor of Nirbachan Bhabhan where 4,500 EVMs were kept. #Banglanews24.com
