A Dhaka court has remanded 10 accused in police custody for five days each to interrogate them in the case over the murder of BUET student Abrar Fahad Muzahid.

The Detective Branch of police produced them before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury on Tuesday (Oct 8) with plea for 10-day remand while the court granted for five days.

The remanded accused are Anik Sarker, Ifti Mosharraf, Mehedi Hassan Robin, Meftahul Islam Xion, Muntasir Alam Jemmy, Khandker Tabakkharul Islam Tanvir, Muzahidur Rahman Muzahid, Mehedi Hassan Russell, Muhtasim Fuad and Istiaq Ahemd Munna.

The all were leaders and activists of BUET unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student front of the ruling Awami League, until they were permanently expelled from the organisation for their alleged involvement in the murder.

Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering of BUET [Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology], was found dead in the stairway of Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of Monday.

Physicians later said his body bore injury marks as he was beaten to death.

Abrar’s father has filed a case accusing 19 BCL leaders and activists of the murder while the central committee of the student front expelled 11 of them.
