Hafizur Rahman Liton and Bakker elected of municipality mayor in Sherpur

Sherpur: Hafizur Rahman Liton has been privately elected mayor for the second time in Nakla municipality and Alhaj Abu Bakker Siddique elected mayor for the second time in Nalitabari municipality of Sherpur district. In Nakla Municipal Council polling was held in 12 centers and Nalitabari Municipal Council polling was held in 9 centers through a festive atmosphere at 8 am to 4 pm on Saturday.

According to the results announced at the Nakla Upazila Election Control Room in Upazila Parishad auditorium after the without any untoward incidents polling and counting of votes from 8 am to 4 pm on Saturday, the nominated candidate of the Awami League, the current mayor, the joint general secretary of the Upazila Awami League Md Hafizur Rahman Liton got 12,006 votes for the Boat symbol. His nearest rival is a member of the district Awami League, former mayor of Nakla municipality Alhaj professor Mizanur Rahman got 4,150 votes for the Coconut tree symbol.
BNP’s party candidate Md Enamul Haque Ripon received 2,985 votes for the symbol of paddy and another independent candidate Md Anwar Hossain Anar co-organizing secretary of Municipal Awami League got 326 votes for the Jag symbol.
A total of 20,733 votes were cast for the post of mayor. There were 20,267 valid votes and 466 invalid votes. The average of votes cast for the post of mayor is about 76 percent.
It may be mentioned that the total number of voters in Nakla municipality is 27,159. Of these, 13,008 are male voters and 14,151 are female voters. According to this calculation, there are 1,143 more female voters than male voters of Nakla municipality. Citizens of Nakla municipal area are happy that the results have been announced after the polling and counting of votes without any untoward incidents.

Assistant returning officer and upazila election officer of Nakla Tareq Aziz, Md Mushfiqur Rahman OC of Nakla Police Station, Upazila Secondary Education Officer (USEO) Mohammad Abdur Rashid and all the officers in charge of the election, journalists of different media, leaders of AL, JL, KL and others, workers of different candidate were present in Election Control Room at Upazila Parishad auditorium, when the results announced.
Nakla Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Zahidur Rahman said, one judicial magistrate, nine nirbahi magistrates, RAB, BGB, police and Ansar members have been appointed in nine wards to ensure free and fair elections. The electoral atmosphere was festive, he added.
Other hand, Alhaj Abu Bakker Siddique has been privately elected mayor for the second time in Nalitabari municipality of the district. Abu Bakker Siddique got 12,956 votes for the Boat symbol. His nearest and only rival BNP’s party candidate Anwar Hossain got 2,411 votes for the paddy symbol. A total number of 22,133 voters in Nalitabari municipality.
