A child named Manik Mia (5) and a fisherman named Usman Gani (45) drowned in Nakla upazila of Sherpur district. The two tragic incidents took place around Thursday noon.
The deceased was identified as Manik Mia, the only child of rickshaw puller Asadul Haque of Kayda village in Nakla municipality and Usman Gani son of late Azim Uddin of Char Bachuralgi village under Chandrakona union of the upazila. The deceased Usman Gani was a professional fisherman and father of 3 children.
According to family sources, Manik Mia’s father went to Nakla town in a rickshaw around noon and his mother was busy cutting hay in the yard. At this time, Manik fell into the water hole. Manik’s mother entered the house after cutting the hay and started searching for her son. About an hour later, another child of the house saw Manik floating in the water of the hole. Later, other people of the house rescued Maniks body. The family of the deceased is mourning the untimely death of their only child. Local and district BCL vice-president Rabbinur Rahman Jewel confirmed the incident.
Meanwhile, Usman Gani went fishing with nets in the Dashani River, a tributary of the Brahmaputra along with his son Sajal Mia around 11 am on Thursday and Usman Gani drowned in the river. Later, other fishermen rescued Usman Gani’s body. Mizanur Rahman Mintu GS and Mokshed Ali Master joint GS of Chandrakona Union AL confirmed the incident.
